Ed McMahon
March 6, 1923 - June 23, 2009
For over 40 years, Ed McMahon shared his generosity of spirit and professionalism with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He began his affiliation with the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon in 1967. McMahon received both the MDA's Lifetime Achievement Award and its National Humanitarian Award for his years of devoted service on behalf of people with muscular diseases. McMahon served as chairperson of the MDA Senior Citizen's Crusade and made many personal and news media appearances on behalf of the MDA. McMahon was a generous man who will be greatly missed at MDA and by MDA families like ours.
I didn't realize that Ed McMahon had done all that for MDA. That's awesome. Sean didn't get sick from camp this year did he? The pictures from all the previous summers were so fun to look at!
ReplyDeleteIn 1994, as host of the popular syndicated show, "Ed McMahon's Star Search," McMahon arranged for MDA to receive proceeds from call-ins to his "Star Search" annual finals. He also helped double 1994 Shamrocks Against Dystrophy proceeds in Arizona by challenging people to match his own $50,000 donation.

No, Sean did not get sick. He had already been put on Tamiflu prophylactically by his doctor as we expected his surgery to follow camp. Now it looks like his surgery may not happen until October but that's a subject for another post.

Brenda: I didn't realize either that he had done so much for MDA. My good friend has a daughter who was just diagnosed with it. I can't believe how big Sean has gotten! I'm so sorry that I had to cut it short. I was proofing a report while we were talking but after I had to batch it in I had to download again. I hate the timer on reports but oh well. I don't have long distance on my phone but one of these nights I'll grab one of the kids cell phones and give you a call. It was soooooo good to talk to you! I miss you. You're such a loving caring person. Hang in there, being the mother of teenagers gets better with time. I still have two of them and I'm surviving. There was a time I had thre of them too! I'll talk to you soon.
